Anti-flu vaccine
While many countries of the world have already put their orders for supply of anti- flu vaccine to the pharmaceutical company which is going to launch this vaccine soon, India is yet to place any order at all. What is more, even if it now places order, it will take more than a year to get the vaccine as the demand for this product is too high. Imagine so callous is our Central health ministry!

Eco-friendly transport
A chunk of buses and taxis went off the road following High court’s order .Many thought there would be hue and cry over shortage of transport vehicles. But nothing significant happened. People only grumbled and grudged for a day or two. But when they felt how cleaner was the environment than before they could realize how necessary was to implement court’s order.Admittedly, now people have to wait long to avail themselves of their desired buses and go to their destinations hurdled together in crowded vehicles. But still they bear with all these odds for a puff of fresh air much richer in oxygen they have ever had in this city.Hopefully,Supreme court would soon dismiss bus owners’ appeal and give verdict in favour of replacement of old buses and all autos would be converted into echo-friendly ones as per High court’s order. Then our city will be really a worthy place to live in.

Partition of India
There’s a row over Jaswant Singh’s book on Jinnha where Jinnha is eulogized and Sardar Patel and Jawaharlal Nehru are shown in poor light. They’re held to have contributed to the partition of India. This book’s cost Singh dearly. He’s been expelled from BJP.Such a row after 62 years of our independence is useless, may it be of academic interest. Now it’s no denying the fact that had not British divided India, the forces that sponsored Pakistan would have made it inevitable post independence. So undivided India is mere a concept of a day-dreamer. In that sense British did a good job by partitioning India, though the brunt of this division the people had to bear is unforgettable.Pakistan as our neighbour is too hostile. Now imagine forces that represent Pakistan are present in undivided India. Will not this very idea send shiver down your spine? So at present it’s of no consequence whoever supported or opposed partition of India. Poor Jaswant!

Sci-joke!
Son:Dad,they say whenever you feel nervous, move in open air and you’ll be relieved of nervousness.
Dad: What they say is right,my son.
Son:Is there any science behind it?
Dad: Yes, of course!
Son: What’s that?
Dad: Explanation is very simple. When you are in open air you get sufficient oxygen
and your 'nervous' state is oxidized to’ ‘nervic’ state which tautomerises to ‘nirvic’ state meaning fearless state. So you get over your nervousness, my son!

Perform and perish!
Son:Didi’s working exceedingly well as Railway minister.People
must vote her party to power in the state.
Dad: Never!
Son: Why not?

Missing a kiss!
24-year-old girl’s attempt to kiss Irfan Pathan, though it seemed to be her momentary impulse, was most probably a premeditated move. By creating such an unseemly scene she tried to make news and in fact, she was successful. She’d no remorse for what she'd done.On the contrary, she felt proud of her action as her grinning face betrayed. However, such an incident can’t be taken lightly from security point of view. The manner incident took place Pathan might be an easy target,if there were any sinister and preplanned move to do him harm. Now on,perhaps,Pathan’s security would be beefed up.
Land acquisition!
Land Acquisition
Acquisition of land is a very sensitive issue. It’s this issue that’s given land to TMC where it now stands on and robbed CPM of land under it’s feet. However, this issue is more associated with emotion than with rationale. It’s practically stopped all developmental activities that require land, let alone industrialization.Land bill is kept pending at the Center for TMC’s own-your-own-land stance. Whatever be the landacquisition policy, it must incorporate provision to compel owner to part with his land if it’s badly needed for the project in public interest.Of course, adequate compensation must be given to the land loser so that in no way he feels insecured. But for such provision, a continuous tract of land can’t be procured for a project when necessary, as some of the land owners would always disagree to give away their land for emotional and sometimes for political reasons.Again, there must be provision in the bill that under no circumstances multicrop land can be procured even if the land owner agrees, otherwise it might trigger food crisis in the country.

Operation Lalgarh
OPERATION LALGARH
Operation Lalgarh started with a fanfare and would most probably end in a fiasco!Lot of public money is spent for this operation practically with out any result. It’s aim was to flush out or arrest maoists, establish law and order, allay people’s fear, instill a senseof security in them and start developmental activities of which the area is long deprived.Already a couple of months have gone by since operation started, but nothing worthwhile has been achieved. On the contrary, the joint forces seem demoralized, directionless and,so to say, helpless in the face of clever maneuvering of the maoists.PCPA in collusionwith maoists is organizing masses and holding meetings with them under the nose of police and paramilitary forces. Maoists are terrorizing people and killing them when necessary apart from combating with jont forces. If such things continue, it’s no use continuing Operation Lalgarh and waste public money.

Perfomance based promotion!
Performance based promotion!
Introduction of performance based promotion in place of prevailing time bound promotion scheme is a welcome move by Railway minister. But it’s easier said than done. Will performance be impartially and dispassionately assessed? Will a genuinely good performer get justice? Probably not, particularly when nepotism and favoritism are order of the day. In the recently held award giving ceremony of Indian Railways, who chose the 15 eminent personalities for felicitation and awarding them lifetime free railway passes to travel in the first class compartment? Though nobody will grudge their merit to be felicitated and rewarded with special lifetime facilities, still they appeared to have been hand picked for their unstinted support to a particular political party before Lok Sabha election. As regards favouritism, rulling parties are equally to blame!. So in such a milieu, is not performance based promotion in public sector a utopia?

Journalism
Journalism
Freedom of press is a myth. Perhaps, press itself does not want freedom. Journalists, definitely not all, are now the most fettered lot. They’ve the least degree of freedom. They’ve to tow the political line of print or electronic media they serve. Views dominate the news.Sometimes news is tailored to suit the line of thinking a TV channel, particularly a regional one, or news paper pursues. Ironically, they all claim neutrality. Open a TV channel or news daily, you can easily guess how it’ll present a particular event or interpret it. More often than not many journalists behave like spokes persons of political parties. So now news persons have lost the respect they earlier deserved. These people are doing immense harm to a noble profession like Journalism. Isn’t it unfortunate?

Police Service
Police Service
Police service is primarily a thankless job. They get much more brickbats than bouquet from public. Political parties have time old practice of accusing police of unprovoked attack on their men. They claim they always hold peaceful meetings or rally and police pounce upon them without any provocation, whatsoever.People in general buy into such allegation and hold police guilty.Save and except administration, few people claim police action is justified. However, some times administration itself becomes higly critical of action taken by its own police.Media too seldom vindicate police action or call it excesses. But they lash out, though rightly,at police when the latter fail to take appropriate measures against any disturbance or remain as on lookers.Admittedly,in the present political set up, whoever is in power don’t allow police to act freely and fairly. However, there are are many self respecting police men who don’t care to appease their political bosses.Unfortunately they’re fewer in number.

If it so happens!
Son:Dad,when will the transport situation in our city be normal?
Dad:Bus owners have gone to supreme court for justice. So it may take a very long time,my boy.
Son:Dad,I'm afraid after 15 yrs there would be no bus on road!

OUR GOVERNOR!
Governor is the constitutional head of the state.Normally, governor seldom speaks his mind in any affair of the state, let alone make any controversial statement.Whenever a governor goes out of his way and makes a statement,it triggers debate in political circles and sometimes among the masses as well.Such instances were not few in the past in our state.
Recent raging controversy over governor's statements is unfortunate and unwanted.Perhaps, governor made those utterances in open mind without any intention to hurt or favour any political party in particular but they provided ample scope to interpret them otherwise, that enthused opposition and enraged rulling party. They're construed upon as a rapport between governor and the opposition. If such an unhealthy atmosphere prevails,it won't augur well for our democracy.
