MPs' Salary-hike
The proposed five fold increase in pay and that too at one go for MPs is really fascinating. At present what they’re enjoying as perks and allowances along with their normal pay (Rs.16,000.0/month) is no mean amount. In parliament, barring a few members who actively participate in day's proceedings , the rest sit idly and some are even literally caught napping. However, they serve a very useful purpose when voting takes on an issue in the House. In fact, they help the govt in crisis by their numerical strength. These honorable members believe in poet Milnton’s philosophy ‘They also serve who stand and wait’. However, it doesn’t mean MPs’ salary should not be hiked in these days of skyrocketing prices. But it should be raised rationally and not notionally!
