Peace Talk

Naxal leader Krisanji’s offer to open dialogue with the central govt stands out as a good gesture even if it’s taken at its face value. Prime minister and President herself also called upon the Naxals to initiate peace talk.Krisanji mentioned the names of the mediators too. They include Mamata Banerjee who herself recently proposed to talk with the Naxals if they so liked at her Lalgarh rally. So far it’s good. But Krisanji’s rider that for the talk to begin Center should commit to make probe into Azad’s death is a flip side of the coin. He referred to Mamata Banerjee’s statement on Azad issue at Lalgarh where she claimed Azad was murdered and paid tribute to his departed soul as a mark of respect. Krisanji’s also demanded 3 months’ cease fire during talk.Perhaps, judicial probe in Azad’s death might stand in the way of talk process to take off as AP govt won’t agree to make enquiry into Azad’s death. It’s true at Jungal Mahal the Naxals are now at the receiving end. They know more confrontation means more loss of life. So they might agree to initiate talk on govt’s terms at least to have a breathing space for the time being.

  1. Peace is the ultimate goal of all sane human being. So nothing's wrong on initiating peace talk. Moot point is - what's the motive? Really to establish peace in the long suffered area and ensure the tormented people return to normal life free from murder violence intimidation? What's the situation now! The Maoists unleashing reign of terror committing murder violence daily converted a large tract of the country into 'free zone'.Now the state machinery could somehow inculcate some sort of assurance in the minds of the suffering populace resulting in mass mobilisation and resultant resistance to the killers. The success of the central and state security forces in suitably cornering the Maoist changed the scenario. That prompted the friends and well wishers to come to the rescue of the Maoists. Since they extended effective help in Nandigram Singur and other places to wipe out the state authority, Maoists can jolly well expect help and assistance in return.Maoists require breathing space for regrouping and augmenting man and materiel for a renewed effective onslaught. TMC is always in league with anybody against the state govt. Though a powerful minister in the central govt the tmc supremo has the authority and audacity to openly proclaim her opposition to govt policy. Now the congress in the central gov solely dependent on the support of tmc remain paralysed even though vital national interest and much needed welfare to the suffering people of Lalgarh betrayed. The rally itself at Lalgarh was aimed at assuring the Maoists that tmc and the motley other fellow travellers are with them. The unprincipled power hungry leaders on the rampage. Cry people, cry!
