Scams Galore
The public representatives who handle public exchequer are obviously answerable to public. They need to explain how the money is utilized to appropriate authority. Despite these checks and balances rampant corruption s are going on in public life. What’s most unfortunate, these malpractices are rising leaps and bounds. One scam after another is unfolding almost every day. Many of the scams are mind-boggling and they involve cores of rupees. Sometime it reaches astronomical figures. These are all our moneys and a large portion comes from poor people who dominate the economic scenario of our country. What’s most interesting people in high places who play ducks and drakes with public money are hardly brought under scanner. Most of them escape unnoticed and unscathed with their booties and only an unfortunate few come to the glare of media for their misdeeds. Thanks to media, for their investigative reporting and sometimes very risky and courageous sting operation scams of big magnitude come to light. In most of the cases CBI enquiries are initiated but results of the enquiries are not made public though it’s public money that the scam is all about. So one can hardly remember how many public figures have been so far brought to book for their financial irregularities. In fact the network of the scamsters are so well knit and well organized, it’s difficult to lay hands on them. These are very shocking stories for our society but perhaps we’ve nothing to do but to be shock-proof.

When three pillars of democracy work hand in glove, things become murkier. People elect representatives in-Parliament, state legislature, local bodies i e panchayats, municipalities- to look after the interest of the people. Being public representatives they are entitled to look after the public's money. When the representatives look after public money, they get ready help and all round cooperation from other wings.Media, most of them are directly or virtually paid, quickly come in aid of image building exercises of those public representatives. With them influential men in administration offer ready service.Since judiciary is not immune from ills of the environ, these people are bestowed with necessary live giving elixir from them. Moreover Investigative agencies specially the premier one-CBI- is vulnerable to manipulation from the ruling elite. So utilisation of money by public's elected persons are their fundamental right. So why this clamouring! On behalf of the electors they are just keeping the wealth in safe custody-sometimes in safe vault of foreign banks-Swiss, Mauritius,Singapore etc.
ReplyDeleteWith time dust settles down. Some people apprehended will ultimately be freed from from the charges with, if at all having minor bruises. Thanks to the close nexus of the levers of power. Let's hope and believe that darkness is not the permanent feature of the society. It will certainly be dispelled with the emergence of bright sun in the horizon.
