Didi's double speak is likely to throw spanner in the peace process that is scheduled to ensue if both the Maoist and the govt abjure arms and for that matter in the developmental activities those Didi has promised.When in opposition Didi posed not to believe there were the Maoists in Jangal mahal and insisted on withdrawal of the joint forces.She also promised to free people who were behind the bar for allegedly performing Maoist activities.In her opinion CPM masquerade as Maoists and make wanton killings in jangal mahal.So she did hardly denounce these killings as vociferously as she does now when her party activists are murdered by Maoists.Maoists in fact expected she'd keep her promises when she'd be in power.
It's not however true that Didi's done nothing for the Maoists when she's come to power. She's not that ungrateful.During LF regime Maoists were almost cornered because of sustained operation of the joint forces.Didi came to power and put on hold the joint force's operation for as many as 4 months perhaps to allow them to regroup ,strengthen and spread their tentacles over larger domain.Now Maosts make their presence felt even in Midnapore town too..That apart, in the name of opening dialogue with Maoists Didi is giving them further time to set their house properly in order.It's well known that good day will never come when the Maoists and Didi would start dialogue across the table.Didi has allowed the Maoists to buy time ignoring the report of the Central intelligence.
However,Didi's officially changed her stance and admit that Maoists are a veritable problem in Jangalmahal.Didi now call them Jangal Mafia and supari killers.She's given them seven days' time to abjure arms and sit across the negotiation table.The Maoist didn't dither to react promptly.They refused talk unless joint forces are withdrawn and and those who're in jail are unconditionally released.Such a tough stance taken by Didi overnight has hurt the supporters and sympathisers of the Maoists and put the self appointed interlocutors to start dialogue between the Maoists and the govt are put on the spot.Ensconced in power Didi has radically changed her attitude to the Maoists and it's shocked and surprised many.Isn't it, in fact , the fall out of Didi's doublespeak?
Maverick politicians like her are expert in speaking in different voices with the sole objective to utilise the occasion to their advantage. It's nothing unusual.Enemy's enemy is my friend- is the old adage which is favourably taken advantage of by people of such genre. But question lies whether the Maoists are at all enemies! Though Maoists declare themselves to be in the extreme end of the political spectrum declaring to set up a state which profess to establish a society free from exploitation of all sorts. But what they practice in reality is helping the rightist forces and unleashing all of their might against the forces of left - not only in West Bengal but in other states too in India e.g, in Chhatisgarh they captured polling stations and allowed voting for the anti left candidates. Though popular discontent is utilised to set foot, but the philosophy of violence and capture power through arms in fact aid and abet the right reactionary forces who are up for perpetuating the ruthless exploitation and disparity. Maoists are for disrupting the peaceful democratic initiative of the people who desire and strive for change that are beneficial to the people at large. Present CM as representative of the exploiting class simply took advantage of the situation and has ultimately (mis)guided the people that in fact brought her to the seat of power in the state. So there's no inconsistency in her utterances. Her great guru, GOEBBELS would certainly be pleased in his grave!
