Perhaps India’s going to be fragmented! One demand after another follows for new statehood. If different states come up based on ethnic, religious, lingual and other
considerations then perhaps India would boast innumerable states, a rare distinction for a federal country in the world. One common motive force behind emergence of a new state is to generate scope for development which it’s unjustly denied by the parent state. But facts tell otherwise. In many instances, new states formed have hardly fulfilled the expectation of progress and prosperity as envisaged before secession. However, it’s no denying the fact that formation of new state is sometimes necessary. For example, recent Central govt’s assent to accord statehood to Telangana cannot be claimed altogether unjustified. In fact, demand for Telangana as a new state is almost 60 year old and it should have been conceded to much earlier. But now Center’s consent has triggered almost flood of demands for new statehood across the state. In Bengal Gorkha Janamukti Morcha, inspired by Center’s decision, intensified their agitation. Not only that, movement for greater Koch Bihar as a new state has gained momentum. Once bifurcated Bengal is threatened with another division. What’s more, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati has gone to the extent of trifurcation of her state to facilitate administration. It’s for certain Central govt can’t stoop to demands for formation of new states at the drop of a hat but what’s unfortunate, such secessionist mentality is prejudicial to the national integrity of our country.

I could recall the Brahmaputra Plan contained in the Pentagon papers revealed after seizure of the US embassy in Teheran at the time of ouster of the Monarchy in Iran,WHEREIN for India creation of 50 small states were envisaged. The main intention has been to weaken India. The division of our motherland on the basis of religion has been a permanent source of trouble and misery of millions. It's still the greatest single source ofimpediment to development to the divided portons of the country.Foreign forces by clever and well orchestrated manouvres create problems in the theree countrie,Bang-Ind-Pak.which greatly contribute to their underdevelopment. These forces alwys create condition to keep these three countries at loggerheads so that their precious resources are wasted in wars and defence preparednees instead of utilising the scarce resources in all out development of the masses. The longterm plan for creating of 50 smaller stes was to weaken the unity of the country which embraced the ideal of unity in diversity. The turbulent movement for creation of states on the basis of language saw the emrgence of quite a number statesin in south and other parts of the country. The local diversity based on culture and so many other factors when brought to the forefront can rouse the emotion of the masses. These sentiments and other dorment aspects of humankind often become very formidable force utilised by diverse elements for their own interes.Common people suffer.Main battle for equitable and sustainable development encompassing the all round progress of the masses are sacrifices at the alter of fanaticism.Creation of certain states are necesary for enforcing better development. But the mushrooming cloud of secessionist trend is surely a source of concern for all who has the time to ponder over the future of our country.Telengan might be an exception. Here there had been great uprising against the despotic and repressive rule of Nizam under the leadership of the leftist forces. Their struggle for a separate state spans over 60 years. In the meabtime so many states has been created, but Telengans case has been denied. Moreover Telengan comproses well over 10 districts. Now the Gorkhaland movement has been inspired by forces inimical to the interest of the country. The casual attitudes of both the state and central governments contributed to the sustenance of the turmoil and lawlessness in three subdivisions of the district of Darjeeling and some pockets of Jalpaiguri. Because of Indo-Nepa Treaty of 1950 thousands of Nepalese settle in India acquired citizenship.Numbers have been on the rise. They are concentrating on some ares and changing the socio-cultural picture of that area. Politicians for their short term gain are ready to sacrifice everything. Moreover SILIGURI and Darjeeling are very vital intersections bordering foreign countries. Inimical forces are always active to destabilise our country. The Brahmaputra Plan is in action.
