Metro Diary!

Metro derailment in the tunnelTo day's metro derailment could have been the worst-ever disaster in the history of metro rail.Since metro services were extended not a single day has passed without snag.Metro was extended to play to the gallery by the railway minister without considering if the existing infrastructure was adequate enough to bear the brunt of extra load.So metro which was once our pride now has become our nightmare. What's unfortunate, the railway minister seems to take very casually what is happening with metro and pass the buck to CPM for engeneering sabotage. But her sabotge or conpiracy theory has unfortunately failed to click and people now know it's her indifference, negligence, lack of proper planning and above all her populist politics have brought the things to such a pass.So it's high time to pause and ponder over safety of Metro. For this purpose metro services shoud be reduced as before till infrastructure is available to ensure metro services over entire stretch.Other wise luck might elude us and a big disater incurring loss of many lives might happen.

  1. Now it has become apparent to all concerned that safety norms for this important and vital public transport has been given a go-by. Metro services up to Tollygunge has been running with much constraint with insufficient infrastructural support. At that time against requirement of 25 rakes, only 18 were available. To run that service in the stretch between Dumdum and Tollygunge, out of 18rakes,16 were deployed keeping 2 for regular maintenance and replacement. Now not a single rake has been added, as such all the 18 rakes are pressed into service having no scope for replacement or otherwise. Moreover the longer route from Dumdum to Garia i.e Kavi Subhas had to be serviced by these 18 rakes aged nearly 20 years or so. Without reinforcing or updating the infrastructural support this extension was done without caring for the safety and security of the commuters. This criminal attitude is detrimental to the life and living of the people who had to avail of the metro services regularly. Though Railway Minister shouts blaming CPM for all mishap and accidents in Metro and Indian railways, the ousted General Manager of Metro, Mr Amarnath attributed all these dangerous happening to the inadequacy and shortage of basic infrastructural support. He has now been shunted to Chittaranjan Locomotive Works as GM.Now blaming infrastructure as the prime cause for the mishaps in Metro Mr Amarnath has led credence to the conclusion of Railway minister that CPM has been trying to altogether stop the Metro services in Kolkata. Since by staying in West Bengal for so many years first as GM Chittaranjan and then as GM Metro, he might quite likely have been indoctrinated by the CPM people with their sinister ideologies. Hence the delayed action to shift this CPM recruit from Metro should be welcomed by all right thinking(!) people.
