Caught Pathetically Unaware!

The EFR jwans of Silda camp at Jangalmahal were almost literally caught napping by the Maoists. They were supposed to be in leisurely mood and passing time in relaxed frame of mind in Maoists’ den and had to pay dearly for their foolishness. They couldn’t even put up a semblance of resistance in the face of sudden Maoists’ attack and pathetically fell prey to their bullets. Had these jawans who are normally groomed through rigorous training that cost enough of public exchequer sacrificed their lives in their fight against the enemy force of a foreign nation their deaths could have been condoled as martyrs' deaths, but in the present case such loss of precious lives can even fail to draw public sympathy because of their unpardonable neglect and indifference. In fact, their deaths evoke more shame than sorrow. People might lose faith in such security forces' ability or preparedness to combat any terrorist attack like that of 26/11.May be, there were lapses on the part of the intelligence network ,but nevertheless it can’t be imagined that they’d be caught unaware by the Maoists in such ignominious way!

  1. EFRunit camping at Silda were meant for combat operation against an insurgent groupings. They were to be on high alert ready for encountering any attack from the enemy,as per their assignment. At least one-third of the force are required to be on combat duty in the camp as per regulation. At least three tiers of security covers are to be in place in the camp when they are in active combat operation zone.
It appears that jawans were in relaxed mode, seems to be in picnic mood. They were provided with sophisticated weapons sufficient to confront the insurgents. The only disadvantage was the site of the camp. But that could have been overcome had the unit followed the regulations as per manual.Really it's sad to mourn the death of 24 of our valiant sonswho perished in such a helpless manner. They could put up not a semblance of resistance not to speak of repulsing this audacious operation of the Maoist. With loss of life and ammunition, there would certainly be much rethining and more precaution. With or without intelligence input, this unprecedented massacre is solely due to the flouting of the mandatory norms to be scrupulously followed by the forces in combat zone.Insurugency could be abated by security operations. But long lasting peace could be ensured by effecting socio-economic measures which can only be taken in a peaceful situation. As a temporary step, routing of forces of disruption is the prime condition. But the forces which supports those in the killing spree of the common people are to be thrashed first; otherwiswe the fight and sacrifice of the valiant security forces will be in vain. Those shortsighted elements hankering for power supports the Maoist overtly or covertly. Also the well known yellow dailies of WBengal e.g. Dainik Pratdin, Bartaman,AnandaBazarPatrika(very cleverly), Dainik Statesman&c and the elcrtonic media like Star Ananda,Kolkata tv etc depict the picture in a completely different way having no truck with fact. These are much more dangerous and difficult to combat.Politicians in powers in Jharkhand and Bihar openly side with Maoist while the one aspiring to reach Writer's Buildings follow suit.Socalled activists in different fields find no violation of human rights or so their fancied words, when toiling people and jawans fall prey to the killing spree of the Maoist. They prefer to shut their eyes and blame the Stae Govt instead. That's the tragedy which is to be overcome by defeating these foces of misinformation and canardmongers alomg with the Maoist, otherwise there could be no peace and the civil society will remain paralysed.
